METALAST JobPro FAQ's

The METALAST JobPro

1. What is METALAST’s experience with automated process control?

Answer: The JobPro is an off the shelf, ‘next generation’ process control system designed for use in the metal finishing industry.  METALAST’s first generation process controller (the “MPCS”) has logged millions of amp hours with verifiable field use since 1996.

2. What kind of companies benefit from using the JobPro?

Answer: All firms utilizing, all types of electrochemical-metalfinishing processes (including anodizing, electroplating, circuit boards, and electro-polishing) will benefit from the use of the JobPro.

3. What does the JobPro control?

Answer: The JobPro controls the power supplies (rectifiers) used in an electrochemical finishing process, i.e. amperage, voltage, ramping, cycle time, and process type.  The JobPro has the ability to pause a run and then, if desired, to ramp back up to the customer’s inputted pre-set limit.

4. What does the JobPro provide?

Answer: The JobPro is an affordable, easy to use, integrated process controller that provides product uniformity, repeatability, increased throughput and fewer rejects. . The JobPro also has the ability to provide a process verification report (PVR) on a user-supplied printer or to stream this information to another computer (PC), which allows the customer to view this information in their desired format. As a result, quality control (shift to shift and job to job) will increase dramatically. The JobPro helps companies move toward compliance with ISO/QS quality standards.

5.  Does the JobPro run by current or voltage?

Answer:  BOTH!  The operator selects how to run each load, either by voltage or current settings. Once saved, the JobPro will run future loads by this selected setting.

6. Will the JobPro accept a customer’s own formulas (“strategies”)?

Answer: YES! We understand that shops have been metal finishing for many years and as such have developed their own in-house formulas (“strategies”). The JobPro gives the customer the ability to Create, Review, Repeat, Edit and Store their own strategies.

7.  Will there be future software upgrades?

Answer:  Yes!  There has already been many upgrades and METALAST plans on at least 1 major upgrade annually.

8. Will the JobPro interface with other existing equipment?

Answer: YES! The JobPro’s interface controller will interface with most types of rectifiers and equipment (MS Dos or Windows based software) such as overhead hoists, chemical monitoring systems, and other materials handling systems.

9. Is extensive retrofitting required for installing the JobPro?

Answer: NO!  If the customers would like to install themselves, they will find that retrofitting costs are minor.  HOWEVER, METALAST has a nationwide network (still growing) of Certified Technical Representatives that can complete the installation of the JobPro, insuring proper running of the unit in a timely and efficient manner.

10. Is special training required to learn to use the JobPro?

Answer: NO! The JobPro is EXTREMELY user friendly. However, a User Guide, as well as a demonstration CD will also be provided.  As always, the METALAST Technical Support Department is always available at the METALAST Technical Center.
