METALAST Making Strides In Titanium And Magnesium

November 12, 1999

METALAST, the leading innovator in technology, research, and process support to the aluminum anodizing industry, is performing research in two of the most advanced anodizing fields today, magnesium and titanium anodizing. A far-reaching study of Titanium anodizing has recently been completed at the METALAST Tech Center, while an extensive investigation on understanding Magnesium anodizing is underway.

Titanium is finding increased applications in a variety of industries, thanks to its light-weight and unique corrosion resistance. The results obtained by the METALAST R&D Team provide valuable information that is not currently found in literature. Most importantly, this study makes it possible for METALAST International to develop a commercially viable titanium anodizing process with consistent color control for large-scale production.

Magnesium is the lightest metallic material available in the world. Increasing the use of magnesium in vehicle manufacturing has become a priority in achieving the automotive industry’s weight reduction goal in the next century. By understanding the demands of the anodizing technology market and the weakness of the existing commercial Magnesium anodizing processes, METALAST is investigating a commercially feasible, environmentally benign, and cost effective Magnesium anodizing technology with superior performance.

By developing a thorough understanding of these two unique anodizing processes, METALAST will be able to position itself as the authority and technological provider for all types of anodizing.

METALAST offers the most complete and advanced technology to the anodizing industry. In addition to the world’s only dedicated anodizing research and development center, the company provides advanced chemistry, computer process controls, education and training, and full technical and marketing support. The METALAST technology facilitates production of superior oxides and operating efficiencies with improved consistency, repeatability, and process verification. METALAST is offered under a license to anodizers. Manufacturers can access any element of the technology, e.g. R&D, technical support, education and training under agreement with the METALAST Consulting Agreement (MCA).
